Disconnecting from the Internet

Although this topic seems fairly redundant when discussing online identities, I found it rather interesting when discussed throughout this article. For instance, a line that really stood out to me was “On the Internet, no one knows you’re a dog.” While there are not actually dogs tweeting or Facebooking behind screens, this managed to put online identities in such a strong perspective for me.

As well, this article refers to humans as cowardly bullies. This holds truth as it refers to how people often experience more anxiety when in face-to-face conversations than online where one is free to be mean with less consequence.

Overall, this quick read gives a stronger understanding to the stigma around creating an online representation of oneself. Although creating in online persona is not always meant to be harmful, there are definitely consequences and risks that people should take time to consider.
