Latest Encryption News

The White House made a pretty significant move today declining to support encryption legislation. The Apple-FBI feud has certainly created ripples in the ongoing dichotomy between privacy and security. No matter where you stand on the issue, the White House seems to have made their position clear. My assumption is that the feud will not end here, and we’re going to be seeing a whole lot more of this in the news.

  1. Although the White House and Apple company have clearly stated their position in refusing to help the FBI with hacking the suspect’s phone, the FBI have found a way to successfully get into the phone without Apple’s help. The FBI now holds significant amount of power in terms of hacking information. They are debating whether or not they want to share their hacking information with Apple; however, if they share the information it can motivate Apple to increase its security measure which the FBI is trying to prevent.

  2. Yeah this is certainly interesting and unique. I can honestly say that in my opinion the whole thing is a little ridiculous from both parties. Apple likely will step up their security now regardless of if the FBI shares their intel, so next time this happens, because we all know there will be a next time, it should be interesting to see what happens. Or how long until the government mandates that they have access or something ridiculous.
