Hey! Do you like listening to free, independently-created music? Well thats just too bad, because Soundcloud is going “freemium” baby!

Welp. I guess it’s time to hop aboard the Spotify train. Goodbye deep house mixes šŸ˜„

  1. This was such a sad post to come by as I am a frequent user of SoundCloud (also a fan of the great deep house mixes available). It worries me to think about what the differences between the ‘two-tiers’ will be like. It would suck to see SoundCloud shut down, however, I’m not sure what to think of its future seeing as how it will be competing against Spotify, Apple, Tidal, etc. who are already operating on the idea of paid subscriptions.

  2. I’m right with you two, it felt like somewhat of an inevitability that SoundCloud would go down this dark – but profitable – path. I agree that the exact functional differences between the levels of membership will be the deciding factor in whether or not I jump-ship. Honestly, if all this fuss and premium membership is just to be able to listen to the artists previous blocked by Sony – e.g. Kelly Clarkson…*sigh*- then it really doesn’t make much difference to me. But if the (previously free) independently created music/remixes/sets are now going to be behind a paywall, then I am out!
